Did you know that every time you hug someone for at least 6 seconds your brain produces a boost of oxytocin that gives you a noticeable lift? Not only does it give you a lift but it helps reduce stress, fear and anxiety, which can lower your blood pressure. * (Though be aware that this positive effect only takes place when being hugged by people we know well and whom we are comfortable being around).
That little hormone known as “oxytocin” can do wonders for just about everyone, as we all can use a little of that.
If you don’t have a pair of friendly arms on you, then the next best thing is to try and connect with someone on the phone you would consider supportive, the voice on the other side of the phone can help you feel better.
According to a recent study from the University of Wisconsin-found that even receiving a text from someone you love can stimulate dopamine, another feel-good chemical, only this effect is shorter-lived and not as associated with relaxation but does help.
So if you don’t have a pair of friendly arms on you, then the next best thing is to reach out and touch someone by phone.
So when it doubt, hug it baby, it CAN make you feel good! 😀
